Frequently asked questions
How do I import transactions?
Go to Import in the sidebar. Select an account, then choose the CSV file you exported from your bank. If your bank is Comdirect, the format is detected automatically. For other banks, you'll set up a column mapping once — Budget saves it to your account so future imports are one click.
My bank isn't Comdirect. Can I still import?
Yes. Choose your CSV file and Budget will show the column mapping step. Tell it which column contains the date, payee, and amount, along with the date format and delimiter your bank uses. Import a file, check the preview looks right, and you're done. The mapping is saved to the account so you won't need to configure it again.
What date format should I enter?
Use the standard format tokens: dd for day, MM for month, yyyy for year. For example, a date like 15.03.2024 uses the format dd.MM.yyyy. A date like 2024-03-15 uses yyyy-MM-dd.
How does triage work?
When you import transactions, they land in the Triage queue unreviewed. Open Triage and work through them one at a time — click a category to assign it and move to the next. Budget suggests up to three categories based on how you've categorized similar payees in the past, so it gets faster the more you use it.
Can I undo a triage assignment?
Yes. The Undo button appears at the top of the transaction list immediately after you make an assignment. It reverts the last action and returns the transaction to the queue.
How do I set a monthly budget for a category?
Open Budget in the sidebar, navigate to the month you want, and click into the Budgeted column for any category. Type a number and press Tab or Return to move to the next row. Changes save immediately.
Will importing the same file twice create duplicate transactions?
No. Budget detects duplicates during import based on date, payee, and amount. The import result tells you how many transactions were skipped.
