Frequently asked questions

Why isn't the fog clearing?

Make sure Fogbound has permission to access your location. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Fogbound and set it to While Using the App or Always. For continuous background tracking, Always is recommended.

Can I clear my exploration history?

Yes. You can reset your entire map from within the app's settings. This action is permanent and cannot be undone, so the app will ask you to confirm before clearing.

Does changing the tile size affect my existing data?

Yes — changing the tile size resets your tile grid. This is intentional: tiles need to align consistently at a given size, and mixing sizes would create gaps and overlaps in the fog. Your tile size is saved so it stays consistent across sessions.

Does photo import upload my photos anywhere?

No. The photo import feature reads only the GPS coordinates embedded in your photo metadata. The photos themselves are never accessed, copied, or transmitted. Everything happens locally on your device.

Why doesn't the Watch app have a map?

MapKit overlays (the tech that powers the fog rendering) aren't available on watchOS. The Watch app shows your live exploration stats and tracking status instead — useful to have on your wrist when you're out exploring.

The app is using a lot of battery. What can I do?

Continuous GPS usage will drain your battery faster than normal — this is true of any location-tracking app. For casual use, you can open the app only when you want to actively explore. If you prefer background tracking, enabling Significant Location Changes mode in Settings uses less battery than continuous GPS at the cost of lower precision.
